BARC–WattShifters Energy-Management Trial

BARC is working with WattShifters to offer members the GoodWatts energy

management system. This system consists of an Internet home gateway, wireless

thermostats, and energy-management switches for electric water heaters. The

system can be used in conjunction with BARC’s load management program to help

alleviate the increasing cost of power.

We are rolling out a limited number of these systems for the first phase of our

trial. If you would like to be considered as a candidate for one of these systems,

please click on the link below and fill out the GoodWatts survey. Someone from

BARC or WattShifters will contact those who qualify for the program to discuss the

next step in the process. This will be an ongoing partnership, so if you are not in the

initial 10-home pilot, you may be contacted in the future to see if you still wish to

participate.

High Speed Internet

BARC has partnered with International Broadband Electric Communications, Inc. to provide high speed internet across the power lines (BPL).  For technical and economic reasons we have decided to start with our Cornwall substation in Rockbridge County.  This station serves the Cornwall, Midvale and Donaldsburg areas as well as Irish Creek and part of the Fairfield area in Rockbridge County.  Members on this substation will be receiving information as to how to sign up in the near future.  IBEC will be testing the service for several weeks before we move on to the next substation but there will be information in the magazine as to the schedule in April and May.

BARC thanks you for your patience in this project and please be aware that we are the 8th coop nationwide undertaking this very new technology.
